The Forever Men Journals: The Black Man (Chapter 4) sorry you guys missed the first 3 chapters...

.....I loved the sea... it was the only place I felt safe... all my tribulations happened so far on land... i felt safe, but fate had a funny way of turning my peace to nightmares, it would be foolish for me to think there was a place in this world i could find pea..**sigh**. The sea was calm, the expedition to find new land and treasure was underway, this was a peak in sea adventure, Columbus made sure of that, sailor extraordinaire, his name was everywhere now.
I was to take off from a coast in Portugal, the ship I boarded, "The Unyielding" it was called as fitting and as powerful as it was called, it was powerful by the way. Portugal, back in the day was one of the poorest nations, its debt ran deep, its economy, non-existent. King Alonso had tried, but he was failing, now people looked to the seas for wealth, new lands, maybe...just maybe, there was gold out there, somewhere. 3 Days out to sea, we were celebrating this new adventure, as i drowned my sorrows in rum and wine, I staggered on a boy, "sorry Sir", he said, then he excused himself, this boy, his composure, the way he spoke, his clothing all said the same thing, wealth??..no, something more royalty.
Later that night, i saw the boy, not more than 14 years of age, alone and eating, i came to him and asked him who he was, "John", he said, i knew it was a lie but i didnt care, he intrigued me, we spoke throughout the night, i had never opened up to anyone like i did to him. He spoke of how he wanted to take Portugal out of poverty and how he wanted to make his kingdom.....his kingdom???..he had made a mistake, he said to much, he excused himself and left.
By dawn, i had found him at the other end of the ship, i asked him who he was, who he really was and with great reluctance he answered and what he said shocked me to the bone... JOAO he said....JOAO the 2nd...
